Your Refund Amount

In Canada, when you make donations to a political party or a candidate during a federal election, you are eligible for a tax credit on your federal income tax return. The tax credits for donations to registered federal political parties or candidates are calculated as follows:

  • 75% on the first $400 donated
  • 50% on the amount between $400 and $75
  • 33 1/3% on the amount over $750 up to $1,650

The maximum amount of credit you can receive in one year caps at $650, which is reached when you donate $1,275. It's important to note that these credits apply only to monetary donations, not to contributions of services, and the donations must be cash contributions to qualify.

Contribution Rules

By submitting a donation, I certify that:

I am a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada and I am making this contribution with my personal credit card and not a corporate credit card;
This contribution is not from a corporation;
The funds I am donating are from me and are not being provided by another person or entity for the purpose of making this contribution.
If this contribution is made on behalf of my spouse, then the credit card balance will be paid from a joint bank account under both our names.

NOTE: As of January 1, 2024, the maximum allowable contribution to a registered Canadian political party increases to $1,725 annually. Accordingly, we will now accept donations of this amount through our website. The maximum possible tax credit remains $650.00. For more information about donations and tax credits, please visit the CRA website and Elections Canada.
